Natural horseman ships like Parelli?

Hey there, so I'm going to test ride a mare on Thursday, and I pretty much know this lease is going to work out, because I've talked with the owner, and I've talked with my mom and grandma. (G-ma is paying for it. lol.) And so from what hte owner told me, she sounds great.

She is a dressage mare, 16.2hh, belgian x paint horse mix.

So the owner said I'd basically have free rein (lol. Horse pun.) with her, I could do what I wanted to with her as long as it wouldn't hurt either of us. So I wanted to try some natural horsemanship with her, like Parelli, or I heard about Clint Anderson? Honestly, I have no experience with this, and I plan on r eading up, but I was wondering if anybody had any like tips for it? Or what program is better than the other?

I would definitely recommend Clinton Anderson. He's so awesome with his training and it really gets the results that you want without waisting anytime. His method of 'make the right thing easy and the wrong thing difficult' really clicks well with horses and they usually get it really fast. I dont have a problem with parrelli I think their training techniques are good if you have time to finnish them all out. The only thing with Parelli is that they "play" alot to teach their horse the lesson which is ok it just takes a LOT longer for the horse to catch on bc parelli doesnt really focus on making the wrong option (say that the horse was doing the wrong thing you dont want them to do) difficult. When you do make the wrong thing difficult then the horse doesnt want to do it bc it is hard. I think Clinton does a great job with showing them that and when they do do the right thing he instantly releases to show them thats right so the horse just learns so much faster. This is just my opinion with trying both techniques and with Clinton's I got great results with. I think the only hard thing with clinton is maybe you might not be able to sometimes understand his australian accent lol!

Im so glad your taking up natural horsemanship. Its so great bc natural horsemanship is all about communicating things with a horse in their own language that they understand. Yes it is sadly true that alot of natural horsemanship trainers want you to think that their way is the "only way" bc they will make more money if you just buy their stuff. (although one thing I do like about Clinton is that he encourages you to learn from every trainer you meet, even if it is what NOT to do bc thats what a true being a true horseman is all about) I also want to encourage you if you can not to get stuck on just one NH trainer. There is no one right way to get to where you want with your horse. If you pick up and learn a little bit of everything from every trainer that you listen to you will have a wealth of knowledge. Once you think you know alot about a horse you realise you only are starting to know a little you actually know bc there is so much to learn.

PS: I have bought some of Clintons dvd's and he DOES work with untrained horses, and problem horses and shows you what to do when you run into those problems with your own horse. He does NOT just get a well trained horse and make it look like he "trained it right there" to perform what he was trying to teach it. He takes horses from alot of levels (un-broke, a little green, and a more well trained horse) to show you how the outcome will look like
