Any recommendations for a waterproofing spray for blankets?
I have tried multiple "waterproofing" sprays to recoat my horse blankets. I can't recall the brand but I picked waterproofing sprays vs. water resistant sprays. Usually they'll keep the blanket waterproof for a month, then I'll wash/dry, and recoat. This year I used the same product as the prior year, but sprayed early on in warm weather....three coats. The blanket was soaked through after about one week (and this is not constant use, just putting the blanket on at night when it's under 35 degrees rain/snow/clear). The blanket was originally waterproof but after about one year it had lost it's factory coating.
Any suggestions on a product that will work?
I've used Camp Dry silicone spray. Its for use on tents and camping equipment. It's done a fair job in the past and we had wet, wet wet winters in PA where I lived.
Another good idea is to use Thompsons Water Seal. Yes, its for decks and wood.. but it does a great job on canvas rugs and turn outs. A New Zealand rug I have is well into its 30's age wise and thompsons is all thats ever been put on it. It remains waterproof and flexible all winter long
