How do you use a bosal?
I've been riding my TB mare bareback with just a halter and lead rope. I'd like to try a bosal. We're both trained in english. I've been accused of being too lazy to tack her up for our rides, so I thought I'd try her with a bosal, just to put tack on her. (We can still out ride and out jump the accuser, even when she's completely tacked up and we're not.)

The difference between riding english and riding with a bosal is less contact. As you probably know, with english you do want contact with the mouth. With a bosal, it is shaped so it is perfectly positioned in such a way that when you pull back it acts on nerve bundles on the jowl.
If I were going to ride with a bosal and I highly recommend it, its a great training aid to teach supplecation and flexing at the poll without using the mouth, I would seriously consider getting one with a rawhide core that you could fit to your horse. If you google arabs and bosals, you will see how they are shaped to conform to the nerve bundles and to be used correctly. Those dimestore ones that aren't shapeable, really do you no justice.
