How much should a saddle weigh?
The Tucker Equitation Endurance saddle looks sweet, but it weighs 21 lbs. I don't want it to be too heavy for an endurance and trail riding. Is it ok, or should I look for a lighter saddle?
Well, duh, I have to make sure it fits first.
What I meant by it looks good, is that it has lots of nice features and different tree sizes. Its actually a pretty ugly saddle, but it looks like it will get the job done, if it fact it fits.
that's a great weight for a saddle. that's very light and a good fit for endurance....IF it fits the horse....what kind of tree is it? If it's a treeless...forget it. treeless saddles are crap, especially for endurance. they offer zero support for the horse's back.
so....doesn't matter if the saddle looks great....does it fit the horse? that's what matters. especially in endurance. if you sore your horse's back you can get disqualified because of that (there are vet checks in endurance rides) and not to mention, it's cruel to the horse's back.
my own saddle is a western one for training...it weights 35 lbs. My other saddle is a roping saddle...it weighs 45 pounds.
so 21 is very light.
