Decoupage Experts Please Answer: Can you Decoupage Vintage Fruit Crate Labels?
Here is my plan: I painted my kitchen. I have a plant shelf above my kitchen cabinets that run half way around my kitchen. I purchased vintage fruit crate labels off ebay. I first wanted to frame them in floating frames and hang them on the wall of the plant shelve for background decor but that would be about $200 in frames. The print on the labels are dark. Would decoupage them directly to the wall work better?
What is your take or opinion on this?
All answers appreaciated that you!
You can decoupage them directly to the wall. I did this with French wine labels, but I color copied them first so I would always have the labels to use for other projects. If you do color copy them, you have to use a printer that has permanent ink because some of the color copiers use an ink that smears when wet. You have several choices on adhering the labels depending on the wall surface. In my case, my walls have an orange peel texture which made the labels bumpy when applied to the wall directly. Since I didn't like that look, I adhered small pieces of thin cardstock to the back of the label (wallpaper liner will work, too). Then I used spray adhesive to attach it to the wall. You can then apply the decoupage medium, but I then used a non-yellowing, UVB/UVA protecting polyurethane painted over the top to protect the labels and make cleaning easier.
