What's the point of a full Cheek Snaffle Bit?
I was just wondering what it does and how it works differently than a loose ring or d-ring. Oh yeah... what's the difference between a loose ring and d-ring? I mean I know the difference in looks, but how are they used differently, do they get different results, etc.

A D ring does what most people think a full cheek does - keeps the bit from being pulled through the mouth. It provides a little more lateral control for turning than the loose ring, but otherwise is used the same.
The full cheek snaffle is much different . If you use the keepers correctly, the bit actually provides a mild leverage. You can set the keepers either close to the bit (less leverage) or further out on the cheekpieces of the bridle (more leverage).
When pressure is applied to the reins, you not only get the snaffle bit action, the leverage on the cheekpieces provides pressure on the poll. This gently encourages the horse to set his head correctly.
It's a wonderful bit. Used without keepers, though, it's about the same as a D-ring.

Next time you see a friend with a properly fitted and keepered 
full cheek bit, try it out. Pull on the rein and check the action of the bit on the bridle - you'll see that pressure is transmitted through the bridle cheek pieces to the poll. If you move the keeper further up, so it's at the top of the bit cheek piece and above the connector on the bridle cheek piece, you'll get more pressure.
This is mild pressure, but for many horses it's just enough. It really encourages them to place their heads correctly.
