Looking at Breast Collars for my Quarter horse, difference between thick and thin ones?
I have a thick nylon/cotton one now and its falling apart and looking at a leather one. I have never had a thin one, I would think they would dig in when it is being used (hills). He does get rubbed from this one, but not all the time, and have heard on here that other people are having a lot of rubbing from leather breast collars. what do you prefer, thick/thin...nylon/leather?
The wider the leather, the more surface area will be in contact with the horse, and the less pressure per square inch will be on your horse. Personally I like wider ones, and I only use leather. In my experience nylon breaks when you don't want it to, and won't break when you need it to, plus, I like my breastcollar to match my Saddle. I've never gotten rubs from my leather breast collars, and I've used the same one on everything from small saddlebreds to full size draft horses.
