question about a snaffle bit?
Hey guys!
I got some stuff from a friend of my moms fo rmy new horse-A lunge line, a few brushes, hoof pick, some thrush stuff and some showsheen stuff, and i also got what she called a "training bridle" [its a western browband headstall] with this HUGE snaffle on it! I know that the small the size of the bit, the more severe, and it gets even more severe if its twisted and what not, but this things has a seriously thick mouth piece. Should I use it, because it isnt so severe, or find a different bit?

its the mouthpiece its self thats big. : ]
The bit has to be fitted to the horse. That includes the width of the mouthpiece as well as fitting the mouthpiece according to the depth of the palate and size of the tongue of an individual horse.
I would recommend that you find someone experienced with how bits are fitted, determine what your new horse is used to, and then try to match your hands to the mildest, well fitted bit that works for you and your horse. Correct bitting is very important and requires expertise.
