Aside from Drilling for Oil in the Future if you are driving is itgoing to be dawn of the dead everybody?

Chaos and such.

If Ford had only know what was going to happen we'd never opened that assembly line and we'd still be on horse back.

I will continue in the same way I have previous to this. I do not have a choice about whether I drive or not. I carpool with my wife when possible, but due to the nature of my work we are not always on the same schedule. The rise in prices have not hurt my budget in a significant manner yet, but when it does then I will be forced to make cuts in other areas.

Alternative fuel research is not a reality at this time and even if we were seriously to begin today (which we should by the way), you have to believe that it will be 15-20 years before these alternatives become mainstream and affordable. People forget that new products are never cheaper due to cost of research and development. In the meantime we do have the means to reduce oil costs. Increase domestic production. More supply will force a reduction in the price per barrel. Additionally OPEC will move to increase it's own production to protect it's market share if this were to happen.

I think people forget that we did not stop domestic oil production based on environmentalism. We stopped it because foreign oil was trading at much lower price at the time than our own crude. It was sold to us under a cost and conservation banner, not an environmental one. We are now paying the price for own short sightedness in this area.

BTW Your Ford comment made me think of an old Jerry Reed song called "Lord Mr. Ford". So thanks for the pleasant memory
