Does anyone feed their chihuahua royal canin?
I`m used to feeding my 5 month old chihuahua, Nikki, the Nutro Ultra Hollistic puppy food, and she's been on it for about a month since I`ve gotten her, but she seems to hate it. So I`m always mixing wet food in it just so she would eat it. But I recently saw that the Royal Canin MINI Chihuahua 28 Dog Food is specially made for chihuahuas. I'm planning on buying it once she's about 8 months old- old enough for adult food, so I just wanted some opinions on it. Would you guys recommend it? Does the food really smell different and make them more attractive to the dog? And is it healthy? Because there have been a lot of recalls. Sorry, I just want to know what's best for my baby.
I feed my chi Nutro Max Mini Chunk Kibble, its a small bite
size for small dogs. In the morning, she gets about 10-12
pieces of kibble with a teaspoon of cottage cheese on top-
for dinner she gets 1/4 cup kibble with 2 teaspoons of a
chicken soup I make for her (I use people grade chicken-
I cook 2 chicken legs in a cup of water until done, then
cut it up into small bits and put the broth and chicken into
some small plastic containers, I also have cooked brown
rice, I fill the containers about 1/3 rice, the rest chkiken and
broth- 2 go into the freezer right away, the one I keep in
the fridge then gets some sliced raw baby carrots mixed
in- ) She loves her dinner. You need to be really careful
about how much you feed you chi- like any other dog, they
will keep eating until they are stuffed, so watch the amounts
of treats and try not to give her a lot of people food. A small
dog has more trouble with the salt content of human food,
so try not to give her too much. My dog loves fresh fruit,
if I am eating an apple, blueberries or even oranges, she
just loves to have a bite, that's OK- she also loves raw
veggies, carrots are her favorites, but she also loves
zucchini and yellow squash slices and even ate a piece of
raw cauliflower. She thinks almonds are a special treat.
But keep an eye on her weight- there's nothing worse than
an overweight chihuahua....they llook pretty pathetic.
