Tub install question?

I am getting ready to replace my standard tub with a Kohler whirlpool tub. The old tub is 60" X 30", the new is 60" X 32". It is in an alcove with concrete block on two sides. My question is, how is the best way to connect the drain kit. The instructions say mount the overflow and the drain assembly to the tub, then set the tub, so the down tube on the tub inserts into the trap in the ground. How can I tighten or adjust the connection after the tub is in. No access due to CBS block walls. There is only one access panel on the tub, but it is on the other end for motor access.
I was thinking maybe installing the drain kit to the trap first, setting the tub, then connecting the overflow and tub drain from inside the tub. Any suggestions?

Your existing trap may not line up with the tub drain, because the new tub is wider than the old tub. You need access from the side of the tub, the rear of the tub, or from underneath to align the drain with the trap and tighten the fitting. Because your tub is heavy and awkward to maneuver, I think it would be nearly impossible to install the drain kit to the trap before setting the tub in place and hope to have the drain and overflow in the right places with reference to the tub.
