this is a pad that fits under a western saddle i am wondering weather you place this over the horses back or you place a blanket over the horse then this pad and if any one has got and if there any good thanks
Yes it is an underpad. Normally a Navajo is used on top. If it is not good quality, it will develop thin spots from saddle pressure.
I prefer underpads that are wool felt on top and bottom and a neoprene layer in the middle. Straight neoprene does not breathe well and builds up a lot of heat.
This article has a lot of great info on saddle pads. Make sure you read the note on leaving neoprene pads on horses too long. "Manufacturers advise riders and trainers not to leave neoprene pads on horses for long periods of time because they build heat and moisture.” And this makes no difference whether the pad is perforated or waffled. It is impossible to channel air as they like to make one believe.
