When should I clip my horse?
I have a halter show coming up in 2 weeks and I was wondering when would be a good time to clip my horse. Right now, she has pretty much a full winter coat. Once I clip her, I will blanket her with a fleece liner and a nylon sheet (not very heavy, but I want her fur to grow back after the show). The temps here have been about 45-60 degrees.
I have never done this before, so from your experience, when should I clip her so that she still looks good in 2 weeks for the show?
Our horses are completely body clipped all winter long, it makes everything easier and with blanketing they are fine. I would suggest clipping the week before, that way if there are any clipper marks, you can run back over them before the show. It isn't hard, just time consuming. You should arrange a good 3 hour slot for your first time but I think you will be fine as long as your horse cooperates! Good luck.
