Parelli equipment help!!!?
i want to start some Parelli stuff with my horse, but i dont wanna buy that halter and carrot stick from their web site because everything is so expensive! can i buy a rope halter anywhere that has one and it will have the same affect as the Parelli one??? also, do i need to make sure that it has a detachable rope, if so how long should the rope be, and where could i get it.
as for the carrot stick, where could i get one of those? does it just have a loop at the end or does it have a tail?
one last thing, how would you reccomend that i learn how to do Parelli? should i watch dvds, or should i have a trainer from my area come and teach it to me??

I do parelli as well , I suggest you join the Savvy club they offer they send you a DVD every month with about 2 hours of various footage and lessons . for 20 bucks that will also give access to their instructors if you need help you can phone a Friend type thing plus you have access to there message board and other people who are in your area who also study Parelli. ( so maybe you meet an join up and work together on different things)
as far as the halter you can find those rope halters in feed and seeds and local tack stores just be on the look out. ( I myself use just a regular halter with a nose guard.
And the carrot stick !!!! yes, expensive . But i use a english riding crop about 4 feet and on the end of it I use some clothes line rope made a braid about 6 ft of it and tied it on to the end. It works just fine !
If you do the DVD series figuar it out to be about 10-20 per hour for lessons that you can watch over and over . you will not get that with a regular trainer no matter what.
