What purpose do they serve and what of theses do you reccomend for va horse ownin??? I see a best anserw in someones future!!

Turnout blanket - a waterproof rug to keep the horse warm and dry when he/she is turned out in the field

Stable blanket - a non-waterproof rug to keep the horse warm in the stable/indoors

Anti-sweat/Cooler - These are both the same thing really. Made of fleece, cotton or waffle they wick sweat away from the horse to help it dry off faster and without catching a chill.

Exercise sheet - a shaped rug to go under the Saddle (or some wrap around the saddle over the top) for use when riding outdoors. It keeps the horse's quarters dry (if its a waterproof one) and keeps the chill off them a little. Keeping the loins warm can help prevent azotoria.

Rain sheet - like a turnout rug but with no filling, ideal for wet, warm days.

Dress/Show sheet - a fancy rug for shows! Usually fleece or cotton.

Turnout and stable rugs come in different thicknesses so you can buy the rugs your horse needs. If it gets very cold where you are, or you have a thin-skinned horse, or you clip, you'll need heavyweight rugs. You can get them with full necks (called combos) to keep the neck clean, dry and warm too.

When you buy rugs, look for the highest denier possible. Most rugs are 600D but if you can a 1200D it will be stronger and less likely to rip.
