western show/ barrel racing braiding tips?
my horse looks really funny with a standard braid and i am taking her to shows in the spring and so i would like a cute braid for her mane, tail, and bangs i would like something that is sort of creative and i would like step by step instructions

I think a basket weave (also known as diamond braid) would be really cute for a barrel horse. She looks like she has a long enough mane for it. To do a basket weave, first band her mane into at least 12 sections. Then you split each section in two and band the left strand of the section with the right strand of the section next to it. It usually looks best if you do about three rows of this, and leave the rest hanging loose.
Here's a picture of a basket weave: http://media.photobucket.com/image/horse%20mane%20basket%20weave/huswplovr/Untitled2jpgmane.jpg
You don't really need to braid her tail, most western horses don't. For her forelock (horses have forelocks, not bangs!) I would just band it as one section to make it look neater. If you try to braid all her hair (mane, forelock, and tail) it looks like you tried too hard, and is distracting. the basket weave braid is unique and interesting enough that you shouldn't need much else.
If you're showing in western pleasure classes, you might be knocked down for getting too creative with your braiding. Western pleasure usually will trim the mane short and band it, but barrel racing, you can get more creative.
