Bridles and Fixing tack. . . ?
Okay, don't mind me, I'm now in a unhappy mood. . . I had an accident while cleaning my old bridle, for anyone who has been around horses and has their own stuff knows what it's like to get slightly attached to things. . .well my bridle's cheeck piece snapped, the metal part went flying, and I cussed out everyone within a 20 mile radus.
So, I was wondering before I haul my behind to the tack store first thing tomorrow morning, is there a way to fix it if I take it to someone? I should get a new bridle for the horse I'm leasing/working with, but this one belonged to my horse walter, who died a few years ago and I dont want to get rid of it.
thankz.
That little metal piece is called the governor, and no, it is not repairable. What you can do, is replace just the cheek. Dover Saddlery and Dressage Extensions sell parts only. You have to kind of guess on the color match, and it won't really quite match, but I found if I put the new one on the "off" side, I didn't notice it as much! You have to measure the width of the leather on the cheek piece so the buckles will fit onto the crown.
Good Luck. I have the bridle from my first "good" horse (it's 25 years old). It has two new cheeks, and some of the crown has been ripped. The cheeks are a match each other but not the crown or the cavesson. I've had people comment on how handsome my bridle is being two tone!
