Would it be alright to use the western one for english...?
I'm borrowing a english bridle with a nose band from someone right now, because mine was stolen. I have a couple western headstalls, so would it be alright if i used that headstall with my english Saddle? I'll use the english bit and reins, it's just the bridle that i need. The only difference is that one has no nose band. I'm pretty sure it will be ok, but im just making sure....so what do you think?
Thanksss!
Using the bit your horse is used to is the most important thing. However, if you use a split ear headstall, it won't stay on so securely as a standard English headstall with a browband and throatlash. If that's the case, you can still use it but I wouldn't jump or ride on the trail in case you have an accident.
If you normally use a plain cavesson noseband for your horse, it's only for decoration so taking it off won't make any difference. If you normally use a drop, flash or grakle you might find that your horse opens his mouth more. Riding with soft hands will help, but stay off the jumps and trails if your horse is very strong and might get dangerous.
Happy riding!
