what is a bar on a western horse saddle?
i'm not sure what this is but i'm needing to know what it is and how i can tell if it will fit a big quarter horse can anyone please help out!!?
The bars are the tree of the saddle. If you take all the leather, all the fleece, everything away, you are left with the tree.
The bars run down the horses back and are what actually puts pressure on the horse as you ride.
To test a saddle fit, you have to put the saddle on the horse bareback (no pad) for starters. There is absolutely no way to know if a saddle will fit or not without doing that.
There is really only 2 size of standard bars- semi and full QH bars. You can get into the extra wide ones but they are not common and you have to search for them.
There is only 1/4in difference between semi and full bars in the width of the gullet.
If you have the saddle and would like to take pics and email them to me, let me know.
