where can I find a western saddle for thoroughbred?
I have a 16.2 hand thoroughbred I am showing in 4-h mainly and will be doing, yes western! I am having a hard time on ebay, all the gullets in show saddles are at LEAST 6" and have little clearance! I think I need less than 6" gullet but I know I need more clearance! So besides spending "thousands" on a costome make saddl is there a brand I can look for or should I find a mexican made saddle, don't they have small shoulder width?
there are a lot of good saddles out there that will fit a thoroughbred horse.TB horses have high,narrow sharply sloping withers,so finding a gullet that wont leave the saddle rocking or pinching in the shoulder shouldnt be a problem.every saddle maker has their own "standards" or "patterns" and no two are alike so fitting a saddle shouldnt be a perfect fit thing.as most people know i only use vintage saddles but my grandfather raised TB horses and quarter horses and the saddle brand he used on the TB horses was "simco" because they just seemed to fit better than any other brand.you shouldnt try to find a "perfect fit"in western saddles they should fit good with enough room in the gullet and have no pockets on the back.always fit the saddle without any pads.dont use an arabian saddle on a TB because they are made for short back horses and will cause back problems later on.warmblood saddles also fit well on TB horses.
